I usually get the signal after I have raged at some SOB for not using the one built into the vehicle. It usually is in the form of a one-finger salute! I just tell him that his hand in that configuration looks a lot like the state of WV.

I used to think OH drivers were the worst (Bobby Rahal excepted), but then I lived in Beckley for a while and saw lots of Virginia plates around. Now those folks have no freaking clue how to drive. Make Ohioans look like savants, really.

But, when it comes to one specific behavior that drives me nuts, it’s the Pennsylvanians, who like to come to a complete stop on Interstate on ramps!

Maybe it was already said… but that’s because Ohio driver drive 10 miles under the speed limit in whatever lane they choose. Unless they want to pass, of course, then they’ll speed up to pass… in the right lane.

MI drivers are the worst drivers though. For a state that spends 8 months enclosed in an igloo, MI drivers refuse to understand that one CAN drive over 15 when its snowing (50% of the state) or than one cannot drive 93 just because one is in an SUV (other 50%). The right lane in MI has officially become the passing lane – usually to leap-frog drivers that are going the same speed that the leaper wishes to go – but for some damn reason actually keeps a safe following distance from the car in front of them. Safe following distance is a no no in MI. 5′ between bumpers, no more please.

Some of that WV non-use of turn signals trickles over to the Ohio side right here where I live which is just over the river from Wheeling. It’s an area of Ohio that I think the rest of Ohio considers WV!! LOL

I’ve also noticed since moving to this area that most people don’t really comprehend what the lines painted on the road actually represent. For example, if a section of road has a lot of curves, people don’t think twice about drifting out over the middle yellow lines in order to make the curve less severe or, even worse, have to APPLY THEIR BRAKES!!

That’s an interesting observation. You’re right — no small towns. But since the collision numbers were in terms of percentages I’m not sure that would be relevant. Maybe the didn’t look at any towns under 100k? Who knows.

Since I didn’t notice any population of that list of less than triple digits, I’ll presume WV’s small towns don’t qualify for the list. Besides, we that live in border towns know good and well that noone gives a good left turn signal with their left arm like a West Virginian.

That’s because as soon as they enter the state they go into white-knuckled panic.

As far as the OH driving test, all I remember is being scared shiteless. We didn’t have to run an Indy course or anything though.

Well the thing is..Ohio-ins behave when they are in their own state and come to West Virginia to suck at driving hence lowing the cities standings. Obviously cause Ohio is the SUXXORRR 4EVA N00 RTNS!!

I totally agree with the turn signal thing. It’s like people consider it an “optional” when driving.

I’d love to hear what the Ohio driving test is like (and I mean that seriously, not in a sarcastic manner!) because I experience the West Virginian test and frankly it scared me at how easy it was and how incompetent you could be at driving and still pass.

I haven’t done any driving in PA. I found driving in KY to be pretty harrowing at times though.
