During times of crisis you learn a lot about yourself and those around you. When you’re the one in charge of handling the crisis you get to know which of those around you will support you and which will simply get in the way, or worse, add to your problems.

Here’s wishing you and your family a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Cincinnati Reds fans lost a dear friend this past Thursday. Former Reds pitcher and radio announcer Joe Nuxhall passed away at the age of 79.
Like all Cincy natives and Reds fans of my generation, I grew up listening to Joe and his partner Marty Brennaman broadcasting Reds games over the AM airwaves. [...]

As a self-proclaimed Google addict I’m more than a little concerned about the recent rash of reports about emails disappearing from Gmail accounts. The tech site Network World has a detailed story on the Gmail mysteries.
They cite one example of a Gmail power user who had thousands of messages in her account and recently [...]

In the early 90s a children’s television show called “Barney and Friends” became immensely popular. After I heard a few of Barney’s musical offerings (“I love you, you love me…”) I recall being very grateful that I didn’t have children at the time who would want to watch that rubbish all day, and I [...]

I learned the other day that I might be getting my hands on a spare laptop to use around the house. I toyed with the idea of putting Linux on it since I already have a Mac and a Windows box. After all, no good geek should be without at least one Linux machine, right? [...]

It’s every douchebag’s worst nightmare. You’re in the middle of a completely unnecessary and loud conversation on your cell phone in a public place disturbing everyone around you, and suddenly you lose your cell signal.
Thanks to the increasing popularity of cell phone jammers, the nightmare could become a reality for many. According to [...]
Hmm. Tastes like…wine.

I like wine with dinner now and then. More specifically, I like cheap wine with dinner now and then. I never spend more than $10 a bottle, mainly because of my budget, but also because I apparently have the most unsophisticated palate in the world when it comes to wine.
Here is a typical [...]
Is our children learning?

It would seem not.
We are, as far as urban public education is concerned, essentially at rock bottom. We are now at a point where we are essentially churning out ignorant teens who are becoming ignorant adults and society as a whole will pay dearly, very soon. . .
After reading that article I’m reminded of a [...]
