The problem with being a bibliophile (besides dyslexic people telling me I’m going to end up on Dateline’s “To Catch a Predator”) is that books are like Lay’s potato chips: you can’t enjoy just one. I’m not a slow reader, but I don’t read as often as I’d like, so without fail I [...]

My next drink challenge

I’ve already documented here my quest to make the perfect margarita, and if I do say so myself I think I’ve just about done it.
Now I’ve turned my sights to another mixed drink: the martini. It’s strange to think that a man could reach his thirties without ever trying that classic cocktail, but [...]
Sorry, wrong number.

With so many phone numbers we have to keep track of these days, wrong numbers are an inevitable part of life. I receive most of them on my cell phone, which is no surprise given how many times cell numbers probably switch hands in a given year as plans are canceled or switched.
I received one [...]

My God, even the name of this project sounds Orwellian: “The Lower Manhattan Security Initiative.” As the website Engadget reports, that’s basically a fancy name for a city-wide video surveillance system that by 2008 will include thousands of cameras that will serve as watchful eyes to the streets of NYC.
My West Virginia readers [...]

If you’re getting ready to purchase a high-def DVD player, this guy says you better go with Blu-ray.
HD-DVD is not going to win this format war. In fact, one of two things is possible right now: Either Blu-ray will win, or neither format will win. But the best HD-DVD can hope for is to just [...]
I’ll tumble for ya.

I’ve always hated pop-culture swill the likes of reality t.v. and viral videos that sweep the internet. I notice how many times I overhear people at the office discussing who got voted off the island versus people discussing the last book they read, and it depresses the hell out of me. I compare [...]
Preach it, brother.

Keith Olbermann nails it again with another scathing commentary about Bush and Cheney on the heals of Scooter Libby’s commuted sentence. My Dad actually brought this to my attention, and by the time I finished reading it I was ready to pick up a torch and pitchfork and march to Washington.
Excerpt:
The protection of [...]

Have you ever noticed that the cruelest dreams of all are those that fool you into thinking your waking desires are within reach?
Oh, happy Thursday.
